About Palampur
Palampur is the tea capital of northwest India. It is a green hill station on the Kangra Valley in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, surrounded on all sides by tea gardens and pine forests before they merge with the Dhauladhar ranges.
Palampur is located at 32.12°N 76.53°E, at a height of 1,220 meters above sea level and rests at the bottom of mighty Dhauladhar Range. It is in the northwestern region of Himachal Pradesh, in north India and is only 30 km from the popular hill station of Dharamshala.
Behind the town stands high ranges of Dhauladhar mountains (white hill of snow), whose tops remain covered with snow for most part of the year. This place is being developed as a large tourist centre to distribute the tourist flow over the whole Kangra valley. A ropeway and an amusement park is proposed to be established here.
Palampur is the only hill station in India where deodar trees grow within heights of 3000 to 4000 feet from Mean Sea Level and is one of the main spots in the beautiful kangra valley surrounded by tea gardens and pine trees.
Palampur boasts of an Agricultural University,an ayurvedic medical college & hospital (used mainly by medical tourists) and numerous tea factories whose produce is directly exported to Europe. Along with all these, it has a string of power projects, and one of the oldest military cantonment to name a few.
Palampur has seen exponential growth since the liberalization in India. It has grown from a discreet and quiet British hill station to a buzzing town. You can start counting the revenue generated from this town, since around nineteen banks have set base here. There has been a widespread growth in and around Palampur. In addition the population migration from around the town has seen the floating population rise from 10000 to 50000 in just one decade.
